A superhero tries to
get himself classified as a natural disaster so people can get refunded by
their insurance when he destroys their home during a fight.
Storm sat at a courtroom in front of 3 judges. All looking
down at her from their podiums of solid and polished oak with curious and
puzzled looks on their faces.
One broke the silence, “so you want to be a natural
disaster?”
“Its just not fair that my powers are destroying peoples
homes and they don't get compensation for it… your honor” Storm added very
abruptly forgetting that there were people she should respect.
It was his first time in all his years that he had to look
up to someone and talk to with respect.
Storm wasn’t some delusional man that was making some
strange request.
Storm was the best superhero in the country.
All the kids looked up to him as if he were a god. He would
decimate the most feared villains in fashion using some combination of extreme
weathers. Not only could he control the weather, he trained himself to be able
to manipulate every particle of air around him allowing him to fly, become invisible
and so on and so on. He is the embodiment of every kids dreams and fantasies.
Not so much with the adults though. His inhuman abilities have caused quite the
havoc, destroying homes and demolishing buildings. Thousands were left homeless
after the legendary battle of NYC and the 1 man war.
“In what way is what you cause ‘natural’?”
“Air is natural… and the only thing I control is air”
“Control by definition is the disruption of natural
occurrences, is it not?” said the judge that has been sitting quietly at the
end of the oak podium.
“Look, do you want people to be left homeless every time I
save the city or do you want them to be compensated for the damages every time
I save the city.” Storm snapped. Everyone knew this was going to happen. He
wasn't the most patient of guys and definitely didn't have much respect for
authority.
“These just aren’t viable Mr. Storm. Your statements and
proposals all have no legitimate support behind them. No judge in the country
will be able to pass these proposed classifications. You might as well go
straight to the President”
All 3 judges nodded in agreement.
Storm whispered “Might as well.” while his chin as if he had
come across some scientific breakthrough.
Storm, in a fit of rage ripped the roof of the court room
and flew to the Presidents residence in a matter of minutes. As he broke sound
barriers and accelerated from mach 1 all the way to 200 in a matter of seconds,
windows shattered and car alarms went haywire.
At least he had the courtesy to knock on the front door of
the white house, even though he ignored all the lasers pointed straight at his
chest.
He sat in the presidents office and made his proposal.
Within seconds the president signed the piece of paper.
“Sure!” he said. “Just be there for my kids birthday. She’s
your biggest fan.”
